| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Joseph | 4 | | James Murphy III, who passed away on November 13, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Murphy was born to Presiding Elder Elaine | 6 | | P. Murphy Walters Gordon and Joseph James Murphy II in Beverly | 7 | | Hills, California on May 27, 1977; he was baptized at two years | 8 | | old and catechized at St. James African Methodist Episcopal | 9 | | Church in Elkhart, Indiana; he was raised in the church of | 10 | | Allen under the leadership of the Rev. Walter L. Walters II; | 11 | | and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Murphy remained deeply committed to his | 13 | | faith throughout his life; he became a full member of St. Paul | 14 | | AME Church in Indianapolis, Indiana; he was later a member of | 15 | | the Ward Chapel AME church in Peoria; and
| 16 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Murphy was well-read; he loved reading | 17 | | books and newspapers, watching the news, and keeping updated | 18 | | on world events; he enjoyed a good intellectual exchange and | 19 | | debating with others; he also loved music, and he was a | 20 | | connoisseur of hip-hop music and well-versed in the genre's | 21 | | history and artists; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Murphy was affectionately known as "Big | 2 | | Joe" and was often thought of as a gentle giant; he possessed a | 3 | | magical and magnetic personality and was known for his | 4 | | generosity and his great sense of humor; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Joseph Murphy will be remembered as a loving son, | 6 | | brother, uncle, friend, significant other, and father; | 7 | | therefore, be it
| 8 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 9 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 10 | | we mourn the passing of Joseph James Murphy III and extend our | 11 | | sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew | 12 | | and loved him; and be it further
| 13 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 14 | | presented to the family of Joseph Murphy as an expression of | 15 | | our deepest sympathy.
