HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to commemorate the contribution Mark
4Aguirre has made to Illinois basketball; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre was born in Chicago on December 10,
61959; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre attended George Westinghouse College
8Prep in Chicago, becoming a Third-team Parade All-American and
9McDonald's All-American; he was named Mr. Basketball USA in
101978 by Ballislife.com; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre attended DePaul University in
12Chicago; he led the Blue Devils to three consecutive NCAA
13Tournament appearances and was named the Naismith College
14Player of the Year and awarded the Adolph Rupp Trophy; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre earned a number of honors while
16playing at DePaul University, including being named a two-time
17consensus first-team All-American, Sporting News College
18Basketball Player of the Year, UPI College Basketball Player
19of the Year, and AP College Basketball Player of the Year and
20receiving the USBWA Oscar Robertson Trophy during his time
21with the Blue Devils, which led to his number being retired and

1his induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of
2Fame; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre was part of the 1980 U.S. Olympic
4Basketball Team and received a Congressional Gold Medal; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre was drafted first overall in the
61981 NBA Draft by the Dallas Mavericks; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre played in the NBA for 13 seasons,
8winning two NBA Championships and earning selection to the NBA
9All-Star Team three times; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Mark Aguirre coached in the NBA for six seasons;
11therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
13HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
14we recognize Mark Aguirre's achievements and applaud the
15contributions he made to basketball in Illinois; and be it
16further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to Mark Aguirre as a symbol of our respect and
19esteem.
