| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of | 3 | | Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Sherlynn | 4 | | Dudley Reid, who passed away on March 10, 2021; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid was born in Pittsburgh, | 6 | | Pennsylvania to Franklin and Mary (Goode) Dudley on November | 7 | | 4, 1933; she graduated from Shenley High School and, as a | 8 | | teenager, had a radio show and was known as "Little Dee"; she | 9 | | also worked in her uncle's pharmacy; she studied arts and | 10 | | drama at Fisk University; she married Henry Reid, and they | 11 | | lived in Cleveland, Ohio and Detroit, Michigan before settling | 12 | | in Oak Park; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid was very invested in serving | 14 | | her community; she was involved with the PTO at Beye | 15 | | Elementary School and the League of Woman Voters, later | 16 | | becoming the first African American president of the | 17 | | organization; she became involved with the Human Relations | 18 | | Commission in the early 1970s and later became the Director of | 19 | | Community Relations for the Village of Oak Park, a position | 20 | | she held for more than 25 years, retiring in 1999; she was | 21 | | inducted into the Village of Oak Park Hall of Fame; and | 22 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid was a long-time member of |

| 1 | | the First United Church of Oak Park and a long-time member and | 2 | | past president of the 19th Century Charitable Association; she | 3 | | was a charter member of the West Towns Chapter of The LINKS, | 4 | | Inc. and remained an active member of the Fisk Alumni | 5 | | Association; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid was the recipient of | 7 | | numerous awards for her service; after the death of her | 8 | | husband, she worked with CAST to establish the Henry E. Reid | 9 | | Memorial Scholarship Fund and worked diligently to raise funds | 10 | | to help provide scholarships to hundreds of students, which | 11 | | enabled them to participate in CAST; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid was preceded in death by her | 13 | | parents and her siblings, Yvonne Pennington and Sherwood and | 14 | | Franklin Dudley; and
| 15 | | WHEREAS, Sherlynn Dudley Reid is survived by her daughters | 16 | | Mary, Dorothy, and Lorie (Cederick) Fuller; her grandsons, | 17 | | Henry Ryan Reid and Connor and Isaiah Fuller; and many nieces | 18 | | and nephews, cousins, and dear friends; therefore, be it
| 19 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE | 20 | | HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 21 | | we mourn the passing of Sherlynn Dudley Reid and extend our | 22 | | sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew |
