SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Laura K. Girton of Oakwood, who passed
4away on May 24, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Laura Girton was born in Erie, Pennsylvania to
6Louis J. and Nancy (Munz) Gizoli on October 13, 1966; she
7graduated from McDowell High School and earned her bachelor's
8degree in education from Penn State University in 1988; she
9received her master's degree in education administration from
10Eastern Illinois University in 2002; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Laura Girton started her career at
12Bismarck-Henning Elementary School in 1994; she spent 12 years
13as a 1st grade teacher, and the last 12 as principal; she spent
14countless hours searching for new and innovative ways to make
15the school day more enjoyable and productive for the students
16and staff; she started the Mileage Club, Lunch on the Lawn,
17Principal Pals, and family involvement nights; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Laura Girton never missed an opportunity to root
19on Penn State football and Cardinals baseball; her greatest joy
20was being in the stands cheering on Zack and Kyle at all of
21their events; she also looked forward to the annual gathering
22of her extended family at her parents' lake home; and

1    WHEREAS, Laura Girton was preceded in death by her maternal
2and paternal grandparents; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Laura Girton is survived by her parents; her
4husband of 28 years, Derek J Girton; her sons, Zachery L.
5Girton and Kyle J. Girton; her sisters, Deanne (Andrew)
6Potalivo and Christine (Christopher) Morrow; her nephew, Ryan
7Morrow; and her nieces, Meghan Morrow, Paige Potalivo, and
8Payton Potalivo; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Laura K. Girton, and extend our sincere condolences to her
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Laura Girton as an expression of our
16deepest sympathy.
