SENATE RESOLUTION

  
 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to 
3learn of the death of Russ Gremel, who passed away on April 22, 
42018; and
  
 
5    WHEREAS, Russ Gremel was born in Chicago on September 5, 
61918; he was a longtime resident of the Jefferson Park 
7neighborhood of Chicago; and
  
 
8    WHEREAS, Russ Gremel worked as an attorney and was always 
9very active in his community; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Russ Gremel was a leader for Boy Scout Troop 979, 
11sponsored by the Congregational Church of Jefferson Park; under 
12his direction, over 150 Boy Scouts achieved the rank of Eagle 
13Scout; and
  
 
14    WHEREAS, In 2017,  the Illinois Audubon Society named a new 
15wildlife sanctuary in Lee County in honor of Russ Gremel; the 
16society established the sanctuary in part through a $2.1 
17million donation of Walgreen's stock that Russ had purchased 
18over 60 years ago for approximately $1,000; and
  
 
19    WHEREAS, Russ Gremel enjoyed baseball; he always pushed 
20those around him to be the best that they could be; therefore,

2    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL 
3ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of 
4Russ Gremel, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, 
5friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
  
 
6    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be 
7presented to  the family of  Russ Gremel as an expression of our 
8deepest sympathy.
