SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens, of Green Valley, Arizona, formerly of Chicago and Arthur, who passed away on March 4, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was born in Chicago to George and Betty Marsch Johnston on March 31, 1943; she was a child actor and appeared in commercials, plays, and television shows; she attended Immaculata High School in Chicago and Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington; she later attended the University of Chicago and the University of Illinois, where she earned two graduate degrees, one in social work and one in special education administration; she married Doug in Chicago on January 4, 1964; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens worked in child welfare and then at the Coles County Mental Health Center, where she served as the Clinical Services Director and then as Acting Director; she completed 20 years as a school social worker in Mattoon and then continued to teach graduate students at the University of Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens served on the Library Board in Arthur and volunteered for the Friends of the Library in Green Valley; she was a member of the United Methodist Church of Green Valley, the Green Valley Hiking Club, and Newcomers of Green Valley; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens enjoyed creating and publishing crossword puzzles, dealing in antiques, and designing gardens, which were often featured on garden tours; she enjoyed traveling, especially to Santa Fe, New Mexico; throughout her life, she and her family took many backpacking trips out West; she hiked the Grand Canyon five times; she was a voracious reader and belonged to many book clubs; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens was preceded in death by her father, and her brother, Georgie; and

WHEREAS, Marcia Jurgens is survived by her mother; her husband, Doug; her children, Christie (Bob Poznanovich) Logan, Kimberly (Ed) Miles, and Elizabeth (Seth) Padovan; her grandchildren, Sam and Jack Logan, Nan and Henry Miles, and Quinn Padovan; her sister, Jennie (Paul) Kula; and her three nieces and two nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Marcia Milne Johnston Jurgens and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Marcia Jurgens as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
