SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of T. Patrick "Pat" Kane of Godfrey, who
4passed away on January 24, 2018; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Pat Kane was born in Wood River to George and
6Salome (Miller) Kane; he graduated from Marquette High School
7and attended Shurtleff College before being drafted into the
8United States Army and serving in the Korean War; he married
9Dorothy E. Begnel on August 11, 1951; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Pat Kane returned from Korea in 1953 and joined
11his father at Kane Plumbing; he assumed ownership of the
12business after the death of his father in 1956 and oversaw the
13growth and expansion of the business; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Pat Kane was an active member of the local Wood
15River business community; he was involved in the Lion's Club,
16serving as its president and helping with their annual pancake
17breakfast; he was involved in attracting other businesses to
18the area including the Eastgate Movie Theater, the Ponderosa
19restaurant, and one of the first skilled nursing facilities,
20VIP Manor Nursing Home, as builder and owner; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Pat Kane loved boating, water skiing, teaching

1others to water ski, and spending Sundays on the river or at
2the Lake of the Ozarks; he loved golf and purchased the Rolling
3Hills Golf Course in 1976; he spent his retirement years
4actively involved in the operation of Rolling Hills, taking it
5from a simple nine-hole course to an 18-hole course with a new
6clubhouse and eventually adding a nine-hole executive course;
7he was committed to his Catholic faith; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Pat Kane is survived by his wife, Pat; his
9children and their spouses, Mary Ellen and Pat Richards, Tom
10and Janet Kane, John and Joan Kane, Beth and Rob Holtz, and
11Chris and Nici Kane; his grandchildren, Amy Fahnenstock,
12Patrick Kane, David Kane, Matt Richards, Mary Mauro, Joe Kane,
13Jack Kane, Kate Holtz, Danny Holtz, Michael Holtz, Ellie Kane,
14Annie Kate Kane, and Chloe Kane; 14 great-grandchildren; his
15brother and sister-in-law, Mike and Joyce Kane; and numerous
16nieces, nephews, and cousins; therefore, be it
 
17    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
18ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
19T. Patrick "Pat" Kane, and extend our sincere condolences to
20his family, friends, and all who knew and loved his; and be it
21further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
23presented to the family of Pat Kane as an expression of our
