SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Ray M. Heckler of Urbana, who passed away
4on February 13, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ray Heckler was born in Sullivan to Ross and Maud
6Holly Heckler on September 2, 1922; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ray Heckler served his country as a Private First
8Class in the United States Army at Fort Shelling, Minnesota; he
9retired after 40 years as a Command Sergeant Major in the
10Illinois National Guard in Urbana; he served in places such as
11Berlin, Germany; Japan; Paris and Marcel, France; and
12Casablanca, Morocco; he was awarded the Bronze Star in France
13in recognition of heroic and meritorious service on the field
14of battle; and
 
15    WHEREAS, In 2011, Ray Heckler and his brother, John, took
16part in an Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Ray Heckler attended the Philo Church of Christ in
18Urbana and volunteered for Habitat for Humanity; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Ray Heckler was preceded in death by his parents;
20four brothers; and his wife, Sylvia "Grandma Sid"; and

1    WHEREAS, Ray Heckler is survived by his sons, Terry (Candy)
2and Rodney Heckler; his daughter, Judy (Jim)
3Heckler-Heimburger; numerous grandchildren and
4great-grandchildren; and one brother; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
6ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
7Ray M. Heckler, and extend our sincere condolences to his
8family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11presented to the family of Ray Heckler as an expression of our
12deepest sympathy.
