SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James M. "Whitey" Hansen of Rock Island,
4who passed away on January 2, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, James Hansen was born in Brooklyn, New York to
6John and Elizabeth Kelly Hansen on October 11, 1924; his
7parents died at a young age and he and his twin brother, Joe,
8were raised in an orphanage in upstate New York; he married
9Catherine Isabelle Kirchner in St. Patrick, Missouri on July 6,
101945; and
 
11    WHEREAS, James Hansen proudly served with the United States
12Army Corps. of Engineers during World War II; after his
13discharge from the Army, he and his family settled in the Quad
14Cities; he worked as a truck driver and retired from Churchill
15Truck Lines in 1982; and
 
16    WHEREAS, James Hansen was a retired member of the Teamsters
17Local No. 371, the Milan American Legion Post 569, and the Rock
18Island Moose Lodge; he was a lifetime member of the Rock Island
19Boat Club, and a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Rock
20Island; and
 
21    WHEREAS, James Hansen was an avid fisherman; he also

1enjoyed dancing, racquetball, and playing euchre; he loved to
2go out and share a hearty breakfast with his family; he would
3often take his sons camping and fishing in Missouri; he
4traveled to Florida many times to visit his twin brother, Joe,
5and go deep sea fishing; he would also take weekend fishing
6trips with his brother-in-law, Bill Hungate; he could often be
7found tinkering on treasures he found at garage sales, or
8lending a hand to one of his many friends; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Hansen was preceded in death by his son,
10James B. Hansen, two grandchildren, and all five of his
11siblings; and
 
12    WHEREAS, James Hansen is survived by his wife, Catherine
13Isabelle Hansen; his children, Joan Holgate, Joe (Jean) Hansen,
14John (Bonnie) Hansen, Robert Hansen, and his foster-son, Devin
15(Lisa) Hansen; his nine grandchildren, Kenneth Holgate, Thomas
16Holgate, Patricia Holgate-Norris, Melinda Leenerts, Elizabeth
17Holgate, Tamara Robinson, Pamela Barrios, Christopher Hansen,
18and Katy Hansen; his 22 great-grandchildren, three
19great-great-grandchildren, and four stepgrandsons; therefore,
20be it
 
21    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
22ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his
23family and friends, mourn the passing of James M. "Whitey"

1Hansen, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
2friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of James Hansen as an expression of our
5deepest sympathy.
