SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
210 ILCS 50/3.56 new

    Amends the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act. Provides that any individual who serves as either emergency medical services personnel on a volunteer basis or as a firefighter on a volunteer basis may not be disciplined or terminated by his or her employer for responding to an emergency call or emergency text message during work hours that requests the individual's volunteer emergency medical services or volunteer firefighter services.

1    AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Systems Act
5is amended by adding Section 3.56 as follows:
 
6    (210 ILCS 50/3.56 new)
7    Sec. 3.56. Volunteer Emergency Medical Services personnel,
8firefighters. Any individual who serves as either EMS personnel
9on a volunteer basis or as a firefighter on a volunteer basis
10may not be disciplined or terminated by his or her employer for
11responding to an emergency call or emergency text message
12during work hours that requests the individual's volunteer
13emergency medical services or volunteer firefighter services.
