HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Margaret Ross,
4affectionately known as "Gran," on the occasion of her 100th
5birthday on October 5, 2018; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Margaret Ross became active with the 8th Ward
7Regular Democratic Organization in Chicago under the
8leadership of Committeeman John Stronger during the late 1960s;
9soon after joining the organization, she became the Precinct
10Captain of the 56th precinct; she served as Precinct Captain
11for 15 years; she also served as the President of the 8th Ward
12Women's Auxiliary for two years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In 1965, Margaret Ross was a founding member of
14the 79th Street Kimbark Block Club; for 20 years, she actively
15worked with the families on her block to "improve the quality
16of life" on their block and in the community; she was receptive
17to the concerns and suggestions of the residents and worked
18diligently to make improvements a reality and remedy concerns;
19and
 
20    WHEREAS, In 1972, Margaret Ross changed the focus of her
21career and began working as a Probation Officer in the Cook
22County Adult Probation Department, where she counseled

1troubled adults; after 21 years of service, she retired in
21993; in 1995, she began working as an aide to Alderman
3Michelle Harris at the 8th Ward Democratic Office in Chicago;
4she concluded her part-time employment with the 8th Ward
5Democratic Office in January 2012; for nearly 30 years, she
6also worked as a Judge of Election for the Chicago Board of
7Election Commissioners at her neighborhood polling place; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Margaret Ross has always valued being an active
9member of her community and remains an ardent supporter of the
108th Ward Family; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13congratulate Margaret Ross on the occasion of her 100th
14birthday and her contributions to the City of Chicago and the
15State of Illinois; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to Margaret Ross as a symbol of our esteem and
18respect.
