HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to recognize the 65th anniversary of Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540; and

WHEREAS, The world's largest Catholic fraternal service organization, the Knights of Columbus, was founded in the United States in 1882; it was named in honor of Christopher Columbus and supports four principles: charity, unity, fraternity, and patriotism; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 was formed on June 22, 1952 by the men of St. Ann Catholic Parish in Lansing; it serves that parish, along with St. James the Greater Catholic Church in Sauk Village and Our Lady of Knock Catholic Church in Calumet City; and

WHEREAS, Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 carries out the work for the good of the community by promoting Catholic education, supporting its athletes on the Special Olympics swim team, and supporting the children at the St. Joseph's Carmelite Home; and

WHEREAS, The solid foundation laid by those who were instrumental in founding Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 has continued through 46 Grand Knights and officers; these 65 years have made the Council what it is today; the Council has seen a steady growth in membership to where it numbers are in excess of 480 members; and

WHEREAS, To commemorate the 65th anniversary of Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 there will be a anniversary celebration gala on June 23, 2017 from 6:00 p.m.-10:00 p.m. at Kacey's Banquet Hall Restaurant and Lounge in Lansing; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we recognize the 65th anniversary of Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 and we wish the members many more wonderful years; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the members of Knights of Columbus, Lansing Council #3540 as a symbol of our respect and esteem.
