HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, Generations of immigrants from every corner of the
3globe have helped build the economy of Illinois and thus have
4shaped the unique character of our nation; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Fourteen percent of our State's residents are
6immigrants, over 1.8 million people; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Immigrant entrepreneurs and small business owners
8create jobs, pay taxes, and play an important role in our
9State's economy; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Sara Lee, Kraft, McDonald's, The Boeing Company,
11and Baxter International are some of the most successful
12companies in Illinois, founded by immigrants or children of
13immigrants, and bring in more than $140 billion in annual
14revenue; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Immigrants have provided the State with unique
16social and cultural influence, fundamentally enriching the
17character of our State, and thus of our nation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Immigrants have been tireless leaders not only in
19securing their own rights and access to economic, social, and
20political opportunity, but have also fought to create a fairer

1and more just society for all Americans; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Despite these countless contributions to our
3nation, the role of immigrants has frequently been and
4continues to be overlooked and undervalued; therefore, be it
 
5    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
6HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE SENATE
7CONCURRING HEREIN, that we declare June of 2017 to be
8"Immigrant Heritage Month" in the State of Illinois; and be it
9further
 
10    RESOLVED, That we express our appreciation for all of the
11immigrants whose perseverance and resilience have helped make
12the United States of America a beacon for diversity,
13inclusivity, and opportunity.
