SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Stephen H. "Steve" Bauer of Urbana, who passed away on November 30, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Bauer was born in Denver, Colorado to Clifford and Dorothy Bauer on June 24, 1947; he married Linda in Greeley, Colorado in June of 1969; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Bauer began his journalism career in 1970 as a writer for the Greeley (Colorado) Tribune; he moved his family to Urbana in 1979, where he became a reporter for the Champaign News-Gazette; he won Colorado and Illinois Press Association awards for photography and investigative reporting; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Bauer retired in 2010; he loved spending time with his family and enjoyed writing prose and poetry, reading Civil War history, and collecting vintage Kodak cameras; his constant companions were "The Bauer dogs", Sam, Lilo, and Benji, who were always sitting in his lap in his recliner taking naps or going with him for walks during the day; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Bauer was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Donna Brotherton; and

WHEREAS, Stephen Bauer is survived by his wife, Linda Bauer; his daughters, Shoshanna Bauer (Michael Bohlmann), and Katrina (Jeremy) Tauba Fitzig; his grandchildren, Sophia Bauer-Macareg, and Yosef, Hana, and Eda Fitzig; his brother, Randy Bauer; his nephews, Nathan and Matthew Bauer; his grandnephew, Noah; and his grandniece, Emi; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Stephen H. "Steve" Bauer, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Stephen Bauer as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
