| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of John S. Matijevich of North Chicago, who | 4 | | passed away on November 3, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich was born in North Chicago to Mike | 6 | | and Anna Matijevich on December 25, 1927 and was a lifelong | 7 | | resident; he served in the United States Army; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich served in the Illinois House of | 9 | | Representatives for 26 years, retiring in 1992; he was the | 10 | | Assistant Majority Leader under Michael Madigan and served on | 11 | | many other committees during his time as a State | 12 | | Representative; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich was the Police Magistrate for the | 14 | | City of North Chicago and served as the Police Chief of North | 15 | | Chicago; he wrote a column for the North Chicago Tribune and | 16 | | later for the Lake County Journal and Bob Schroeder Publishing; | 17 | | and | 18 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich was a former member of Holy Family | 19 | | Parish in North Chicago; he was a member of the Croatian | 20 | | Fraternal Union Lodge 848 and the Knights of Columbus; he was a | 21 | | lifetime member of the Moose and an honorary member of the |

| 2 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich was an avid Chicago Cubs and | 3 | | passed away just after watching them win the World Series; and | 4 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich was preceded in death by his | 5 | | parents; his brother, Louis Matijevich; and his sisters, | 6 | | Katherine Matijevich, Mary Matijevich, and Frances VanDyke; | 7 | | and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, John Matijevich is survived by his wife of 60 | 9 | | years, Agnes (Pavelick); his son, Robert Matijevich; his | 10 | | sister, Rose Matijevich; his niece, Anne (John) Walin; and his | 11 | | nephews, David and Michael VanDyke; therefore, be it
| 12 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 13 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 14 | | John S. Matijevich, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 15 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 16 | | further
