| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Louis Turilli of East Moline, who passed | 4 | | away on August 26, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was born on July 3, 1915 in Chicago; | 6 | | his parents were Baccio and Eugenia Turilli; he married Osvalda | 7 | | "Ozzi" Carmignani on April 28, 1946 in Chicago; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, During the years preceding World War II, Louis | 9 | | Turilli was employed by the Metropolitan State Bank in Chicago | 10 | | for seven years; he was inducted into the United States Army in | 11 | | September of 1942; after completing basic training, he was | 12 | | selected to attend Officers Candidate School at Field Artillery | 13 | | School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma; after graduating from Officers | 14 | | Candidate School, he was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in | 15 | | the Field Artillery and assigned to the 27th Division in the | 16 | | Hawaiian Islands; on June 1, 1944, the division left the | 17 | | Hawaiian Islands and joined a large convoy for the attack on | 18 | | the island of Saipan, where he served as an Artillery Forward | 19 | | Observer on Saipan and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal; he | 20 | | spent the winter of 1944-1945 on the New Hebrides Islands to | 21 | | regroup and prepare for the next mission on Okinawa; on | 22 | | Okinawa, he was the Battery Executive Officer in charge of the | 23 | | battery's 105mm howitzers; after the end of the war, he was |

| 1 | | promoted to Battery Commander of "A" Battery and flown into | 2 | | Japan with elements of the 27th Division to ensure the safety | 3 | | of the formal Army of Occupation that had already landed in | 4 | | Japan; he left Japan on December 1, 1945 and arrived home in | 5 | | Chicago on December 27; he received his honorable discharge | 6 | | from the Army on March 31, 1946; and
| 7 | | WHEREAS, After the war, Louis Turilli owned and operated | 8 | | the family restaurant in Chicago for seven years; in February | 9 | | of 1952, he entered the civil service as a civilian employee of | 10 | | the United States Department of the Army, where he worked for | 11 | | the Chicago Ordinance District, the Army Procurement and Supply | 12 | | Agency in Joliet, AMCCOM, and the Rock Island Arsenal until he | 13 | | retired in September of 1976 as a Contracting Officer; he went | 14 | | on to work as a self-employed Marketing Consultant to private | 15 | | Department of Defense contractors until his retirement in | 16 | | September of 1995; and | 17 | | WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was a member of Christ the King | 18 | | Catholic Church in Moline, the Rock Island Arsenal Historical | 19 | | Society, AARP, the 27th Infantry Association, the National | 20 | | Association of Retired Federal Employees, the World War II | 21 | | Memorial Society, the Colonel Davenport Historical Foundation, | 22 | | the National Museum of the U.S. Army, and the American Legion; | 23 | | and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was an avid Chicago White Sox fan | 2 | | and enjoyed following all sports with his sons; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Louis Turilli was preceded in death by his wife, | 4 | | Osvalda; his parents; his brothers, Dewey and William; and his | 5 | | sisters, Lillian Fundahn and Lyda Deacetis; and | 6 | | WHEREAS, Louis Turilli is survived by his sons, Louis | 7 | | (Carole Bryan) Turilli, Larry (Laurie) Turilli, and James | 8 | | (Rodger Van Hyfte) Turilli; his grandchildren, Jaime (Randall) | 9 | | Turilli Bill, Stacey (Jeffery) Runde, Matthew Turilli, | 10 | | Victoria Bryan O'Neal, John (Katie) Bryan, and James | 11 | | (Stephanie) Bryan; and his great-grandchildren, Holden and | 12 | | Hadley Bill, Weston Runde, Katherine and Elliot O'Neal, Jackson | 13 | | Bryan, Phoebe Bryan, and Louie's Angel; therefore, be it
| 14 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 15 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with his | 16 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Louis Turilli; and be | 17 | | it further
| 18 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 19 | | presented to the family of Louis Turilli as an expression of | 20 | | our sympathy.
