| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of E. Allan Englehardt of Lake Bluff, who | 4 | | passed away on May 9, 2016; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt grew up in the Chicago area and | 6 | | graduated from Highland Park High School; he graduated from | 7 | | Southern Illinois University Carbondale with a degree in | 8 | | aviation; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt had a long career as a pilot for | 10 | | United Airlines; he was a designated pilot examiner for the | 11 | | Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) out of the Chicago | 12 | | Executive Airport in Wheeling, where he later served as | 13 | | Chairman of the Board; he operated his own ground school | 14 | | program from 1974 until 1989; he was part of the successful | 15 | | lobbying effort to get the FAA to raise the retirement age for | 16 | | airline pilots from 60 to 65; and
| 17 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt stepped down from the Chicago | 18 | | Executive Airport in 2013 but remained active at the airport, | 19 | | including as a member of its flying club; and
| 20 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt enjoyed visiting Civil War | 21 | | sites, riding his motorcycle, attending live theater and |

| 1 | | operas, and speaking with young people about how to get into | 2 | | aviation; and | 3 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt was inducted into the Illinois | 4 | | Aviation Hall of Fame in 2009, named FAA national, regional, | 5 | | and district flight instructor of the year in 1976, and named | 6 | | FAA regional and district aviation safety counselor of the year | 7 | | in 1990 and 1993; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Allan Englehardt is survived by his wife, Diana; | 9 | | his daughter, Tricia Negel; his sons, Tison and Allan Joseph; | 10 | | five grandchildren; and his brother, William; therefore, be it
| 11 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL | 12 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 13 | | E. Allan Englehardt, and extend our sincere condolences to his | 14 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 15 | | further
| 16 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 17 | | presented to the family of Allan Englehardt as an expression of | 18 | | our deepest sympathy.
