SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Dorothy A. (nee Hammel) Yellen, who
4passed away on January 31, 2015; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin on
6April 17, 1924 to Elise and Harry Hammel; she attended the
7University of Wisconsin; during World War II, she worked as a
8nurse's aide at a veteran's hospital in the Hyde Park
9neighborhood; she married Morris Yellen on July 7, 1945; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen worked as a salesperson of men's
11clothing at several Waukegan stores; she also helped take the
12United States Census every 10 years; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen was an avid sports fan and enjoyed
14watching baseball, golf, football, tennis, basketball, and
15most of all, college basketball; she enjoyed cooking, bridge,
16mahjong, and the many family dogs that were a lifelong presence
17in her home; she cherished her close friends from Kenosha,
18Waukegan, and most recently at Kensington Court in Downers
19Grove; she was active in the Hadassah and Sisterhood at Temple
20Am Echod in Waukegan; she was lovingly known to her family as
21"Grandma Doll", or simply "Doll"; and

1    WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen was preceded in death by her
2husband of 68 years, Morris; her parents; and her brother,
3Philip; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Dorothy Yellen is survived by her children, Marlo
5(Larry) Beeman, Jeffrey (John Yallech) Yellen, Larry (Susan)
6Yellen, Harlene (William) Murry, and Julie (Steve) Arshop; she
7was the adoring grandmother of David Beeman, Maggie
8Fisher-Yellen, Elise and Emma Murry, and Sammy Arshop;
9therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Dorothy A. Yellen, and extend our sincere condolences to her
13family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dorothy Yellen as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
