HOUSE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Robert Ellis Atherton on the occasion of his retirement from the Illinois State Police on June 30, 2016; and

WHEREAS, Robert Atherton earned his Associate in Applied Science in 1986 and his Bachelor of Science in 1998; he graduated from the Federal Bureau of Investigation National Academy in 2007; and

WHEREAS, Robert Atherton worked for the City of Polo Police Department from 1988 to 1990; in 1990, he graduated from Illinois State Police Cadet Class 88 and joined the Illinois State Police, where he was assigned to District 7 (Rock Island); he was promoted to District 7 Sergeant in 1997, to District 7 Master Sergeant in 2000, and to District 7 Lieutenant in 2006; he held interim District Commander positions in District 7, 16, and 17 from 2008 to 2013; he was promoted to District 7 and 17 Captain in 2013; he was appointed to Major of Region II Commander in 2015; and

WHEREAS, Robert Atherton has been involved with numerous organizations, including the Hampton Elementary School Board (Past President, Vice-President, and Member), the Illinois State Police Command Council (Past Chairman, Treasurer, and Region Representative), the Quad City Council of Police Chiefs (Past Member, Secretary/Treasurer), FBI National Academy Associates, Illinois Winter Special Olympics (Volunteer), and Hampton Elementary Sports (Volunteer, Coach); and

WHEREAS, Robert Atherton was named the Sauk Valley Community College 2014 Outstanding Alumnus of the Year; he received National Veterans Awareness Ride Recognition in 2010, 2012, and 2014; he received the Illini Hospital Outstanding Community Service Award in 2001; and

WHEREAS, Robert Atherton has been married to Rebecca for 25 years and they have one daughter, Karina; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we congratulate Robert Ellis Atherton on his retirement from the Illinois State Police and we wish him the best in all his future endeavors; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to Robert Atherton as an expression of our esteem and respect.
