HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 39

 
2    WHEREAS, Isiah Lord Thomas, III is a retired American
3basketball player who played professionally for the Detroit
4Pistons in the National Basketball Association (NBA); and
 
5    WHEREAS, Isiah Thomas is a 12-time NBA All-Star, a member
6of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, and was named
7one of the 50 Greatest Players in NBA History; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Isiah Thomas was born and raised in the City of
9Chicago; he played basketball for St. Joseph's High School and
10played collegiately for the Indiana Hoosiers; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Isiah Thomas played with the Detroit Pistons as a
12point guard from 1981 through 1994 and led the "Bad Boys" to
13consecutive NBA championships in the 1988-89 and the 1989-90
14seasons; and
 
15    WHEREAS, After his NBA career, Isiah Thomas was an
16executive with the Toronto Raptors, a television commentator,
17an executive with the Continental Basketball Association, head
18coach of the Indiana Pacers, and an executive and head coach
19for the New York Knicks; he later coached the Florida
20International University Golden Panthers for 3 seasons from
212009 to 2012; therefore, be it

1    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
2NINETY-NINTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
3SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that we designate South Wolf Road
4between Roosevelt Road and West Cermak Road in Westchester as
5the "Isiah Thomas Boulevard"; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That the Illinois Department of Transportation
7is requested to erect at suitable locations, consistent with
8State and federal regulations, appropriate plaques or signs
9giving notice of the name of the "Isiah Thomas Boulevard"; and
10be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That suitable copies of this resolution be
12presented to the Secretary of the Illinois Department of
13Transportation and Isiah Thomas.
