SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 301/20-25 new

    Amends the Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and Dependency Act. Provides that all programs serving persons with substance use issues licensed by the Department of Human Services under the Act must provide educational information concerning treatment options for opioid addiction, including the use of a medication for the use of opioid addiction, recognition of and response to opioid overdose, and the use and administration of naloxone, to clients identified as having or seeking treatment for opioid addiction. Provides that the Department shall develop educational materials that are supported by research and updated periodically that must be used by programs to comply with this requirement.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Alcoholism and Other Drug Abuse and
5Dependency Act is amended by adding Section 20-25 as follows:
 
6    (20 ILCS 301/20-25 new)
7    Sec. 20-25. Opioid addiction treatment education. All
8programs serving persons with substance use issues licensed by
9the Department under this Act must provide educational
10information concerning treatment options for opioid addiction,
11including the use of a medication for the use of opioid
12addiction, recognition of and response to opioid overdose, and
13the use and administration of naloxone, to clients identified
14as having or seeking treatment for opioid addiction. The
15Department shall develop educational materials that are
