| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Ethel Louise Brooks of East St. Louis, | 4 | | who passed away on June 6, 2014; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was born in Troy, Tennessee on April | 6 | | 6, 1932 to Bessie Suggest and Jennings Brooks; she was educated | 7 | | in the Union, Tennessee school system and moved to East St. | 8 | | Louis; she attended Southern Illinois University in | 9 | | Edwardsville, Springfield College, and Sangamon University; | 10 | | she married Robert Marshall Brooks; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was employed with East St. Louis | 12 | | School District 189 and worked in local real estate, purchasing | 13 | | and maintaining several properties; she was a familiar face at | 14 | | St. Mary's Hospital in East St. Louis, greeting and welcoming | 15 | | those who were visiting; she eventually began working as | 16 | | Executive Legislative Assistant to State Senator Kenneth Hall, | 17 | | Sr. and State Senator James Clayborne, Jr. for many years until | 18 | | her retirement; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks enjoyed reading, tending to her rose | 20 | | garden and flowers, lunches, ladies day outings, and spending | 21 | | time with children and her grandchildren; and

| 1 | | WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks was preceded in death by both | 2 | | grandparents; her parents; her husband, Robert; and her son, | 3 | | Kevin Rene Brooks; and
| 4 | | WHEREAS, Ethel Brooks is survived by her son, Robert M. | 5 | | Brooks, II "Bobby"; grandchildren, Jason (Christina) Brooks | 6 | | and Nicholai and Ashlea Brooks; great-grandson, Dominic | 7 | | Brooks; sister, Joan Davis; daughter-in-law, Marla (Roger) | 8 | | Tolson; and a host of nieces, special friends, neighbors, | 9 | | co-workers, and her church family; therefore, be it
| 10 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL | 11 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 12 | | Ethel Louise Brooks, and extend our sincere condolences to her | 13 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it | 14 | | further
| 15 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 | | presented to the family of Ethel Brooks as an expression of our | 17 | | deepest sympathy.
