|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to |
3 | | learn of the death of Gertrude Louise Sward of Harvard, who |
4 | | passed away on August 9, 2013; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was born on July 4, 1923 in |
6 | | Rockford; her parents were Claude O. and Myrtle L. (nee Pihl) |
7 | | Pagles; she married Lawrence Henry Sward, Jr. on January 16, |
8 | | 1946 at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church in Harvard; and
|
9 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward graduated from Harvard High School |
10 | | in 1941; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a devoted farm wife and |
12 | | homemaker; she was also employed at Woodstock Manufacturing |
13 | | Corporation for 23 years and worked at J.L. Clark Manufacturing |
14 | | Company in Rockford before her marriage; and
|
15 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was a member of Trinity Evangelical |
16 | | Lutheran Church for 76 years; she was a member of the Women of |
17 | | the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, where she served as |
18 | | treasurer; she was an associate member of the Elizabeth Circle |
19 | | and a 4-H leader; she was a member of the West Dunham |
20 | | Homemakers and the Harvard Village Quilters; she was also a |
21 | | volunteer for the Harvard Hospital Auxiliary and a member of |

1 | | the American Legion Auxiliary; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward enjoyed gardening and quilting; |
3 | | she generously shared her garden bounties and could always be |
4 | | counted on to bring food to her church; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward was preceded in death by her |
6 | | husband, Henry; her son, Steven Allen Sward; her parents; and |
7 | | her brother, Orville Pagles; and |
8 | | WHEREAS, Gertrude Sward is survived by her daughters, |
9 | | Roxanne (Charles) Sundin and Jennifer (James) Mudrock; her |
10 | | grandchildren, Sharon (Joseph) Rucinski, Douglas Sundin, |
11 | | Jeffrey (Rebecca) Mudrock, Jason Mudrock, and Jana Mudrock; her |
12 | | great-grandchild, Mason Rucinski; her sisters, Jeannette |
13 | | McCullough, Hanna Brady, and Ruth (Howard) Walker; and her |
14 | | sister-in-law, Dolores Hobbs; therefore, be it
|
15 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL |
16 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her |
17 | | family and friends, mourn the passing of Gertrude Louise Sward; |
18 | | and be it further
|
19 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
20 | | presented to the family of Gertrude Sward as an expression of |
21 | | our sympathy.
