SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Kamisha Danyette Hodge-Walker of Decatur, who passed away on June 12, 2013; and

WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker was born April 29, 1976, in Decatur to Diane Belue and Thomas E. Walker; she graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in 1994, where she was a member of the National Honor Society, as well as the cheerleading squad, the volleyball team, and the student council, and she was crowned homecoming queen; she attended St. Louis University, graduating with honors in English and business administration; she was working towards a Master's degree from Webster University; she married Harlan Hodge on May 24, 1998; and

WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker taught English at Brittany Woods Middle School in St. Louis, Missouri, for 2 years before moving back to Illinois; and

WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker's faith was very important to her; she was reared in the Church of the Living God, the Pillar and Ground of the Truth, Temple #1, where she was active in the youth department and Bible drill team; while living in St. Louis she attended Shalom City of Peace; upon returning to Decatur, she was a member of the Main Street Church of the Living God; she participated in the women's mission and the noon day prayer, and served as a mentor with Youth With A Positive Direction; she was the visionary and founder of Decatur's Sunday Best and Family Feud; and

WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker was preceded in death by her biological mother, Diane Belue Cook; her paternal grandfather, Roger Walker Sr.; her maternal grandmother, Jackie Miller; and her maternal grandfather, aunt, and uncle, L.C. and Leta Collins; and

WHEREAS, Kamisha Hodge-Walker is survived by her parents, Dr. Thomas E. Walker and Margaret A. Walker; her son, Brylan Hodge; her brothers, Pierre Perkins, Anthony Corey (Sylvia) Walker, and Shalen Walker; her sisters, Jalynn Walker and Shannon (Marlon) Joyner; her grandmother, Ida Lake-Walker; her uncles, Arthur Lee (Terri) Walker, Timothy Lake, Rev. Barnett (Laticia Faye) Belue, Cornell (Carmen) Belue, and Jerry Wayne Belue; her aunts, Hilda Walker and Shawn (Michael) Page; her great-aunts, Doris Lawrence, Mary Ann Boyd, and Jean (A.D.) Brooks; her great-uncle, Horace (Dimple) Walker; her special cousin, Tina (Sylvania) McDaniel; and a host of aunts, uncles, nephews, nieces, and other relatives; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-EIGHTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Kamisha Danyette Hodge-Walker, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Kamisha Hodge-Walker as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
