| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Philip J. "PJ" McGuire, who passed away | 4 | | on June 1, 2013; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire was born on September 5, 1925, in | 6 | | Carrollton; his parents were John Louis McGuire and Clara | 7 | | Cecelia McGuire; he married Adele Costa on January 25, 1958, at | 8 | | St Michael's Catholic Church in Staunton; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire served his country as a member of | 10 | | the United States Navy during World War II; and
| 11 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire earned his bachelor's degree in | 12 | | business administration from Shurtleff College in 1952; and
| 13 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire was an accountant for Shell Oil for | 14 | | 39 years until his retirement in 1987; after his retirement, he | 15 | | served as a volunteer tax return preparer for VITA, giving tax | 16 | | assistance to the poor and elderly up through the 2012 tax | 17 | | year; and
| 18 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire was a long time member of St. | 19 | | Matthew's Catholic Church in Alton and transferred to St. | 20 | | Mary's after the former was closed; he was also a member of the |

| 1 | | Alton Eagles #254, the Quarterback Club, the Alton Wood River | 2 | | Sportsman's Club, and the Alton VFW Post 1308; and
| 3 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire was a fan of the St. Louis | 4 | | Cardinals baseball and football teams and the St. Louis Rams; | 5 | | he also enjoyed golfing, hunting with his family members, and | 6 | | loved spending time with his son and his family at their | 7 | | wilderness cabin in Ontario, Canada; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire was preceded in death by his wife, | 9 | | Adele; his parents; his brothers, Edgar McGuire, Lawrence | 10 | | Vernon McGuire, and Donald "Mac" McGuire; and his special | 11 | | companion, Dorothy Stumpe; and | 12 | | WHEREAS, Philip McGuire is survived by his son and | 13 | | daughter-in-law, John and Debby McGuire; his daughter and | 14 | | son-in-law, Mary McGuire and Dan Mercado; his cherished | 15 | | grandchildren, Benjamin Philip Meadows McGuire (Kelley), | 16 | | Elizabeth Costa Mercado, Grace McGuire Mercado, and Joseph | 17 | | Anthony Mercado; his sisters, Mary Margaret Henkhaus, Eileen | 18 | | Simonds (Richard), and Donna Kerrihard (Thomas); his brother, | 19 | | Clarence McGuire (Viola); his sisters-in-law, Doris McGuire | 20 | | and Jean McGuire; and his 23 nieces and nephews; therefore, be | 21 | | it
