| 1 | | HOUSE RESOLUTION
| 2 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists serve as an immediate link between the | 3 | | patient and the healthcare industry; citizens turn to and trust | 4 | | pharmacists to provide them with their prescribed medications, | 5 | | as well as healthcare information regarding the usage and | 6 | | safety precautions of both prescription and non-prescription | 7 | | therapies; and
| 8 | | WHEREAS, Pharmacists practice in a variety of settings, | 9 | | including local communities, hospitals, long-term care | 10 | | facilities, the pharmaceutical industry, managed care | 11 | | programs, academia, and government; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, In order for someone to become a pharmacist, he or | 13 | | she must complete extensive education and training; | 14 | | individuals must obtain a Doctor of Pharmacy degree and pass a | 15 | | National Board examination in order to legally practice as a | 16 | | licensed pharmacist in this country; this education and | 17 | | training ensures that pharmacists are the medication therapy | 18 | | experts in the healthcare industry; and
| 19 | | WHEREAS, There are currently over 12,000 pharmacists | 20 | | practicing and residing in the State of Illinois, and each one | 21 | | of them is dedicated to providing services that seek to improve | 22 | | and optimize medication use and advance patient care; |

| 2 | | RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE | 3 | | NINETY-SEVENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that | 4 | | we recognize March 16, 2011 as "Pharmacy Legislative Day" in | 5 | | the State of Illinois, giving Illinois Pharmacists the | 6 | | opportunity to continue their work with the General Assembly to | 7 | | advance issues of healthcare; and be it further
| 8 | | RESOLVED, That "Pharmacy Legislative Day" will give | 9 | | Illinois Pharmacists a better opportunity to share dialogue | 10 | | with the members of the General Assembly in efforts to advance | 11 | | issues of healthcare, improve healthcare access to all Illinois | 12 | | citizens, seek policies for improved efficiency, and control | 13 | | the rising costs of healthcare for all patients, while ensuring | 14 | | appropriate compensation for patient healthcare services.
