SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of James C. Torricelli, Ph.D., of Rochester,
4who passed away on September 22, 2010; and
 
5    WHEREAS, He was born the youngest of nine children on
6January 28, 1935 in his home in Tovey, the son of Patrizio
7Joseph and Virginia Vignocchi Torricelli of Ospitale, Italy; he
8graduated from Tovey Grade School and Kincaid High School; he
9earned an associate's degree from Springfield Junior College
10and his bachelor's degree from Quincy College; he then went on
11to earn his master's degree from Southeast Missouri State
12University (SEMO) in Kirksville, Missouri, and his Ph.D. at
13Southern Illinois University in Carbondale; and
 
14    WHEREAS, He proudly served his country in the Army Reserve
15for eight years and served during the Korean War; he was made
16an Honorary Colonel of the National Guard; he worked as a
17teacher and coach and went on to run a vocational school; he
18then began and ran his own non-profit organization, New Start
19Inc. for more than 30 years; and
 
20    WHEREAS, He was well rooted in his Italian heritage and was
21known as a colorful, unique man who was devoted to his family;
22his word was his life; he was a member of the Cathedral of the

1Immaculate Conception; he was also very involved in local and
2State politics and was a member of the Sangamo Club, Past
3Member of the Roman Cultural Society, and founding member of
4the Bulldog Baseball Dugout Club; he loved to travel, read,
5fish, hunt, cook Italian food, and dance; and
 
6    WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his parents; his
7brothers, Mario, Joseph, William, Fred, and Reno Torricelli;
8and his nephew, Fred-John Torricelli; and
 
9    WHEREAS, James Torricelli is survived by his siblings,
10Wanda (husband, Kenny) Melvin and Robert and John Torricelli;
11his sisters-in-law, Nancy and JoAnn Torricelli; his loving and
12devoted fiancee, Cheryl Betty; his daughter, Virginia
13(husband, Joseph) Bartletti; his sons, James (wife, Karen),
14Timothy (wife, Mary), Steve (wife, Gina), and Jeffrey
15Torricelli; his seven grandchildren, Sara, Reece, Bryce,
16Sofia, Francesca, and Olivia Torricelli and Lauren Blakeman;
17and his many nieces, nephews, and friends; therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-SIXTH GENERAL
19ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
20his family and friends, the passing of James C. Torricelli; and
21be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
