1 AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 5823
2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 5823 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:

4     "Section 5. The Department of Veterans Affairs Act is
5 amended by adding Section 36 as follows:

6     (20 ILCS 2805/36 new)
7     Sec. 36. Mobile assistance units.
8     (a) Subject to appropriations, the Department shall
9 establish a program to make grants to entities for providing
10 mental health and preventive health services using mobile units
11 as provided in this Section. The Department shall issue
12 requests for proposals to provide these services.
13     (b) The services provided under the program shall target
14 homeless veterans and other veterans facing obstacles to
15 obtaining needed care or services, including those residing in
16 rural and medically underserved areas. The mobile assistance

1 units shall travel to various locations to provide services,
2 including local veterans organization facilities and
3 facilities serving the homeless.
4     (c) Services provided through the mobile assistance units
5 may include the following:
6         (1) Mental health screenings.
7         (2) Preventive health care.
8         (3) Crisis intervention.

9     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
10 becoming law.".
