AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4627

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4627 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Township Code is amended by changing
5 Sections 50-5 and 50-15 as follows:
 
6     (60 ILCS 1/50-5)
7     Sec. 50-5. Time of election and terms outside Cook County.
8     (a) Except as provided for Cook County in Section 50-10,
9 and subject to the requirements of the general election law and
10 the referendum provisions in Sections 50-25 and 50-30, at the
11 time of the regular township election provided in the general
12 election law, there shall be elected one township collector.
13 Except as provided in subsection (a) of Section 50-15, the The
14 collector shall hold his or her office for a term of 4 years
15 and until a successor is elected and qualified.
16     (b) At the time of the regular township election provided

1 in the general election law, there shall be elected a township
2 supervisor. The supervisor shall be ex-officio supervisor of
3 general assistance. The supervisor shall hold office for a term
4 of 4 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
5     (c) At the time of the regular township election provided
6 in the general election law, there shall be elected one
7 township clerk. The clerk shall hold office for a term of 4
8 years and until a successor is elected and qualified.
9     (d) At the time of the regular township election provided
10 in the general election law, there shall be elected by ballot
11 one township or multi-township assessor, as the case may be, in
12 the manner provided in the general election law. Except as
13 provided in subsection (c) of Section 50-15, the The assessor
14 shall hold office for a term of 4 years and until a successor
15 is elected and qualified.

18     Sec. 50-15. Time of entering upon duties.
19     (a) In all counties, the township collectors elected at the
20 township election shall enter upon their duties on January 1
21 next following their election and qualification until after the
22 first election following the effective date of this amendatory
23 Act of the 96th General Assembly.
24     In all counties, the term of the township collector elected
25 at the first election following the effective date of this

1 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall begin on
2 January 1 next following his or her election and shall end on
3 the third Monday of May following the next election.
4 Thereafter, all township collectors shall serve a term of 4
5 years beginning on the third Monday of May following their
6 election.
7     (b) In all counties, township supervisors and township
8 clerks shall enter upon their duties on the third Monday of May
9 following their election.
10     (c) Beginning with elections in 1981 and through the
11 election immediately preceding the effective date of this
12 amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly in all counties,
13 the township and multi-township assessors shall enter upon
14 their duties on January 1 next following their election.
15     In all counties, the term of the assessor or multi-township
16 assessor elected at the first election following the effective
17 date of this amendatory Act of the 96th General Assembly shall
18 begin on January 1 next following his or her election and shall
19 end on the third Monday of May following the next election.
20 Thereafter, all assessors or multi-township assessors shall
21 serve a term of 4 years beginning on the third Monday of May
22 following their election.

24     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
25 becoming law.".
