AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 4037

2     AMENDMENT NO. ______. Amend House Bill 4037 by replacing
3 everything after the enacting clause with the following:
 
4     "Section 5. The Election Code is amended by changing
5 Section 19A-15 as follows:
 
6     (10 ILCS 5/19A-15)
7     Sec. 19A-15. Period for early voting; hours.
8     (a) The period for early voting by personal appearance
9 begins the 22nd day preceding a general primary, consolidated
10 primary, consolidated, or general election and extends through
11 the 5th day before election day.
12     (b) A permanent polling place for early voting must remain
13 open for at least 8 hours a day on weekdays (including holidays
14 occurring on weekdays) and at least 6 hours on each weekend
15 other than the final weekend of early voting. A during the
16 hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., or 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., on

1 weekdays and 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Saturdays, Sundays, and
2 holidays; except that, in addition to the hours required by
3 this subsection, a permanent early voting polling place
4 designated by an election authority under subsection (c) of
5 Section 19A-10 must remain open for a total of at least 8 hours
6 on any holiday during the early voting period and a total of at
7 least 14 hours on the final weekend during the early voting
8 period.
9     (c) Any election authority that does not open a permanent
10 polling place under Section 19A-10 shall provide early voting
11 at the office of the election authority during regular office
12 hours. In addition, the election authority shall provide at
13 least 4 additional hours on the final weekend of early voting
14 before any general primary election or general election.

16     Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
17 becoming law.".
