| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of Budd Birnbaum of Wilmette, who recently | 4 |
| passed away; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Budd Birnbaum was born into a family of nine | 6 |
| children; his parents were Orthodox Jews who lived in Hyde | 7 |
| Park; he spent his early years at the Jackson Park golf course, | 8 |
| serving as caddy for Charles "Chick" Evans; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, Budd Birnbaum and his best friend, Lionel, and | 10 |
| other young men from the neighborhood enlisted in the service | 11 |
| at the onset of World War II; he and Lionel enlisted in the | 12 |
| Army Air Corps, and Budd became a General's Adjutant, serving | 13 |
| at the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs, Colorado; he later | 14 |
| requested combat duty and was sent to the Philippines and | 15 |
| Okinawa; he was the only young man from his neighborhood to | 16 |
| return home from the war, losing even his best friend during | 17 |
| conflict; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, After teaching English at a Japanese grade school, | 19 |
| Budd Birnbaum returned home and worked in the music business; | 20 |
| at Lyon and Healy Records he met his future wife, Marilyn; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, Together they moved to 97th Street on the |

| Southside of Chicago and later moved the family to Wilmette; | 2 |
| and

| WHEREAS, Budd Birnbaum was the beloved husband of the late
| 4 |
| Marilyn, nee Blake; he was the loving father of Susan (Gerald)
| 5 |
| Van Kollenburg, Michael (Julia) Birnbaum, Nancy Birnbaum | 6 |
| Blake, and
Peter (Juliet) Birnbaum; he was the devoted "Papa" | 7 |
| of Elizabeth, Matthew, Laura, Rebecca,
Samantha, Christopher, | 8 |
| Madeline, Ben, and Lucy; the dearest son of the late Elias and | 9 |
| Sara Birnbaum; and the youngest of nine siblings; therefore, be | 10 |
| it

| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | 12 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 13 |
| his family and friends, the passing of Budd Birnbaum; and be it | 14 |
| further
| 15 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 16 |
| presented to the family of Budd Birnbaum as a symbol of our | 17 |
| sincere sympathy.
