| SENATE RESOLUTION

| WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 |
| learn of the death of
John Lies of Naperville, who passed away | 4 |
| on March 21, 2008; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, John Lies was born in Aurora and raised in | 6 |
| Naperville; during his senior year at Naperville Community High | 7 |
| School, he was the State wrestling champion; after graduating | 8 |
| from high school in 1966, he went to Western Illinois | 9 |
| University and earned his bachelor's degree in education in | 10 |
| 1971; his first teaching position was at Ellsworth Elementary | 11 |
| in Naperville, where he stayed for three years before he joined | 12 |
| Steeple Run Elementary School in Naperville; and
| 13 |
| WHEREAS, John Lies served as a physical education teacher | 14 |
| at Steeple Run Elementary School for 35 years; for 27 years, he | 15 |
| coached boys and girls gymnastics at Naperville Central; he | 16 |
| previously coached track and wrestling at Washington Junior | 17 |
| High in Naperville; and
| 18 |
| WHEREAS, On his 40th birthday, John Lies decided to run in | 19 |
| the Chicago Marathon; over the last 19 years, he ran in more | 20 |
| than 30 marathons across the U.S.; and
| 21 |
| WHEREAS, John Lies is survived by his wife, Jacque; his |

| three children from a previous marriage, his daughter, Deanna; | 2 |
| and his sons, Chris and Jeff; his stepson, David Newman; his | 3 |
| mother, Shirley Holt; his sister, Cindy Lecas; his brother, | 4 |
| Clyde; and his step-granddaughter; therefore, be it
| 5 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL | 6 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with | 7 |
| his family and friends, the passing of John Lies; and be it | 8 |
| further
| 9 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 |
| presented to the family of John Lies as an expression of our | 11 |
| sympathy.
