HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are pleased to congratulate Mary Woitas of
4 Columbus West School in Cicero on the occasion of being a
5 recipient of a 2008 Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching
6 Award; and
 
7     WHEREAS, The Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching
8 Awards is the first awards program to formally recognize the
9 contributions of teachers working with children from infancy
10 through third grade; the educators selected for this award
11 exemplify the best practices of quality early childhood
12 teaching, namely dedication, innovation, leadership, respect
13 for children and their families, and commitment to professional
14 growth; the awards program is sponsored by the McCormick
15 Tribune Foundation and the Dolores Kohl Education Foundation;
16 the education program of the McCormick Tribune Foundation has
17 committed more than $40 million in resources and expertise to
18 improve the quality of early childhood education in the
19 metropolitan Chicago area since 2000; and
 
20     WHEREAS, Mary Woitas was selected as one of 5 outstanding
21 Chicago educators eligible for the award; as a representative
22 of outstanding education, she will receive a $5,000 cash award,
23 a $1,000 cash award for her school, a classroom visit from the

1 StoryBus, a classroom field trip to and a day of professional
2 development from the Kohl Chicago Children's Museum, a
3 graduate-level course at Chicago's renowned Erikson Institute,
4 and induction into the Kohl McCormick Academy of Outstanding
5 Educators; she will receive her prizes at the Kohl McCormick
6 Early Childhood Teaching Awards luncheon ceremony on June 3,
7 2008 in Chicago; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mary Woitas' dedication to her profession and her
9 willingness to serve her community make her a model for the
10 people of the State of Illinois; therefore, be it
 
11     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
12 NINETY-FIFTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
13 congratulate Mary Woitas on the occasion of being a recipient
14 of a 2008 Kohl McCormick Early Childhood Teaching Award and
15 wish her continued success and happiness in the future; and be
16 it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to Mary Woitas as a symbol of our esteem and respect.
