SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

225 ILCS 312/97 new

Amends the Elevator Safety Act. Provides that any elevator that has malfunctioned in a manner that has led to the dispatch of a fire department for rescue must be marked by that rescuing fire department with an identifying sticker. Sets forth requirements concerning the sticker, and provides that the sticker may be removed only by an elevator mechanic licensed under the Act. Allows the Office of the State Fire Marshal to adopt rules necessary for the implementation and enforcement of this requirement.

Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, represented in the General Assembly:

Section 5. The Elevator Safety and Regulation Act is amended by adding Section 97 as follows:

Sec. 97. Notice of elevator malfunction. Any elevator that has malfunctioned in a manner that has led to the dispatch of a fire department for rescue must be marked by that rescuing fire department with an identifying sticker, which shall be placed conspicuously within the malfunctioning elevator and shall state the name of the dispatching fire department, the date on which the fire department was dispatched, and the fact that the elevator experienced a malfunction on that dispatching date. A sticker placed within a malfunctioning elevator may be removed only by an elevator mechanic licensed under this Act. The Administrator may adopt rules necessary for the implementation and enforcement of this Section.
