Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides that a person charged for the first time with an equipment violation of a specified type shall not be convicted of the violation if the person presents satisfactory evidence in court that the vehicle has been repaired or altered in a manner that brings the vehicle into compliance with the applicable provision.

| AN ACT concerning transportation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|
3 |
| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding |
5 |
| Section 12-102 as follows: |
6 |
| (625 ILCS 5/12-102 new)
|
7 |
| Sec. 12-102. Certain equipment violations; disposition |
8 |
| upon correction. |
9 |
| (a) A person charged for the first time with a violation of |
10 |
| this Chapter 12 to which this Section applies shall not be |
11 |
| convicted of the violation if that person produces in court |
12 |
| satisfactory evidence that the vehicle in question has been |
13 |
| repaired or altered in a manner that brings the vehicle into |
14 |
| compliance with the applicable provision. |
15 |
| (b) This Section applies to violations of the following |
16 |
| provisions of this Chapter 12, if the violation was based on |
17 |
| the vehicle's lack of required equipment or lack of required |
18 |
| equipment in working order: subsections, (a), (b), and (c) of |
19 |
| Section 12-201; Section 12-202; Section 12-208; subsection (a) |
20 |
| of Section 12-211; subsection (a) of Section 12-601; and |
21 |
| Section 12-608.
