| SENATE RESOLUTION
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois | 3 |
| learned with sadness of the death of John W. Luttrell of | 4 |
| Decatur on August 8, 2005; and
| 5 |
| WHEREAS, Mr. Luttrell was born November 27, 1931, in | 6 |
| Clinton, to Emily and Raymond Luttrell; he married JoAnn | 7 |
| Delores Bourland in 1953; and
| 8 |
| WHEREAS, He was a 1953 graduate of Millikin University; he | 9 |
| was one of the 10 basketball players to represent Millikin at | 10 |
| the 1951 NAIA Basketball Tournament, which was the first time | 11 |
| the university ever qualified to attend; he was also a member | 12 |
| of Millikin's track team and holds the record for the two-mile | 13 |
| race; and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, After graduating from Millikin, he served in the | 15 |
| Army and then went to work for Illinois Bell Telephone, where | 16 |
| he became the youngest manager in the company's history; he | 17 |
| then joined The First National Bank as an Assistant | 18 |
| Vice-President and was named Bank President in 1966; he served | 19 |
| for over 30 years as President and Chief Executive Officer for | 20 |
| First Decatur Bancshares, parent company of The First National | 21 |
| Bank of Decatur and FirsTech, Inc.; he retired in 2002; and
| 22 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of the Millikin Board of Trustees; | 23 |
| he had been a member of the Board of Directors of the Illinois | 24 |
| Bankers Association, the Decatur-Macon County Economic | 25 |
| Development Foundation, and Decatur Memorial Hospital; among | 26 |
| his numerous community roles, he served as President or | 27 |
| Chairman of United Way of Decatur and Macon County, the Chamber | 28 |
| of Commerce for Decatur and Macon County, and Decatur Memorial | 29 |
| Foundation; and
| 30 |
| WHEREAS, He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian |

| Church, where he served as an elder; and
| 2 |
| WHEREAS, He received the Young Alumnus Award and the Alumni | 3 |
| Merit-Loyalty Award from Millikin University and was a charter | 4 |
| member of the Millikin Athletic Hall of Fame; he was a past | 5 |
| president of the Millikin Quarterback Club and had recently | 6 |
| been inducted into the Medallion Society, which honors | 7 |
| individuals who have had a significant impact on the university | 8 |
| since 1901; and
| 9 |
| WHEREAS, He was a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, | 10 |
| and friend; he was a true gentleman, beloved by so many people; | 11 |
| and
| 12 |
| WHEREAS, He was preceded in death by his mother and father; | 13 |
| and
| 14 |
| WHEREAS, The passing of John W. Luttrell is felt by all who | 15 |
| knew and loved him, especially his wife, JoAnn; his sons, | 16 |
| Stephen Luttrell and his wife Patti Palmer Luttrell, Thomas | 17 |
| Luttrell and his wife Mary Cunningham Luttrell, and Gregory | 18 |
| Luttrell and his wife Barbara Padula Luttrell; his daughter, | 19 |
| Tracey (Luttrell) Jerger and her husband Bret Jerger; his | 20 |
| sister, Anne (Luttrell) Borg and her husband Richard Borg; and | 21 |
| his eight grandchildren; therefore, be it
| 22 |
| RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL | 23 |
| ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 24 |
| John W. Luttrell and extend our sincerest condolences to his | 25 |
| family, friends, and community; and be it further
| 26 |
| RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 27 |
| presented to his family as an expression of our deepest | 28 |
| sympathy.
