| AN ACT concerning regulation.
|

| Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
|

| represented in the General Assembly:
|

| Section 5. The Coal Mining Act is amended by adding Section |
| 5 |
| 13.16 as follows:
|

| (225 ILCS 705/13.16 new) |
| 7 |
| Sec. 13.16. Longwall coal mining prohibited. No person may |
| 8 |
| conduct or in any way engage in longwall coal mining in |
| 9 |
| Montgomery County. |
| 10 |
| In this Section, "longwall coal mining" means mining done |
| 11 |
| under hydraulic roof supports or shields that are advanced as |
| 12 |
| the seam is cut, in which a cutting head moves back and forth |
| 13 |
| across a panel of coal, where the cut coal falls onto a |
| 14 |
| flexible conveyor for removal and the roof in the mined out |
| 15 |
| areas falls as the supports or shields advance.

| Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon |
| 17 |
| becoming law.
