1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois learned with regret of the passing of Richard J.
4 "Dick" Michelini of Montgomery on October 13, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Richard J. Michelini was born on January 9, 1931
6 in LaSalle to Louis and Margaret (Rinaudo) Michelini; and
7 WHEREAS, In the 1940s, as a young man, Richard Michelini
8 worked in his father's business, the Earlville Bowling Alley,
9 in Earlville, setting up bowling pins for customers; he
10 attended Kemper Military Academy from 1946 to 1947 and
11 graduated from Earlville High School in 1948; a year later,
12 he married his high school sweetheart, Marilyn Boozel; and
13 WHEREAS, Upon graduation from Colorado State University
14 in 1953 with a bachelor's degree in science, Mr. Michelini
15 joined the United States Army where he served for two years
16 as a First and Second Lieutenant at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and
17 at Fort Hood, Texas; and
18 WHEREAS, Mr. Michelini began his career with the Armour
19 Dial Corporation and Virginia Smelting Company before joining
20 Ciba-Geigy in 1959 as a Regional Sales Manager, where he
21 worked for 33 years until his retirement in 1992; and
22 WHEREAS, After retirement, Richard and Marilyn Michelini
23 enjoyed many good years of traveling throughout the country
24 and a trip to Europe; and
25 WHEREAS, Mr. Michelini was dedicated to his community,
26 having served on the Montgomery Village Board from 1965
27 through 1973; he also served as the Aurora Township
28 Democratic Chairman; and
29 WHEREAS, Mr. Michelini valued his family and spent time
30 camping, fishing, and traveling with them; his children have

1 fond memories of trips to the World's Fairs in New York and
2 Quebec, as well as fishing expeditions to Canada; and
3 WHEREAS, The passing of Richard Michelini has been deeply
4 felt by all who knew and loved him, especially his wife of 54
5 years, Marilyn Michelini, the Mayor of Montgomery; his
6 children, Richard Thomas (Mary) Michelini, Marie Lynne
7 Michelini-O'Brien, Mark (Debbie) Michelini, Lisa (Joe)
8 Michelini-Kocot, and Christina Michelini; his grandchildren,
9 Mark Michelini, Nathan Michelini, Thomas Michelini, Stephen
10 Michelini, Jessica Michelini, Dominic Michelini, Caroline
11 Kocot, Clarice Kocot, and Mary Michelini-O'Brien; his
12 sisters-in-law, Doris Inness and Carol (Dave) Frey; and his
13 several nieces, nephews, and cousins; he was preceded in
14 death by his parents, Louis and Margaret Michelini; and his
15 grandparents, Ricardo and Donina Michelini and Dominic and
16 Josephine Rinaudo; therefore, be it
17 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
18 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn, along with
19 all who knew him, the death of Richard J. Michelini of
20 Montgomery; and be it further
21 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22 presented to the family of Richard J. Michelini as an
23 expression of our sincerest condolences.
