1 SENATE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of
3 Illinois were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Golden
4 Sylvester Tillman on Monday, July 14, 2003; and
5 WHEREAS, Mr. Tillman was born on September 20, 1906, in
6 Brookhaven, Mississippi to Reverend Charlie Tillman and Ollie
7 Scarbourgh Tillman; Mr. Tillman received his formal education
8 in schools in Brookhaven, Mississippi and briefly in
9 Oklahoma; and
10 WHEREAS, Mr. Tillman moved to Chicago in 1923, where he
11 joined Progressive Baptist Church; he married Blanche Coester
12 of Kankakee on December 21, 1932; the Tillmans moved to
13 Morgan Park in 1937; and
14 WHEREAS, Mr. Tillman worked as a master molder for
15 Burnside Steel Foundry for nearly 50 years before retiring in
16 1971; he was featured several times in the company
17 newsletters because of his superior quality of work, perfect
18 attendance, and his belief in doing his best when given a
19 job; and
20 WHEREAS, During his retirement, Mr. Tillman enjoyed
21 gardening, recycling, and especially his role as grandfather;
22 he was known for his colorful language and his memorable
23 quotes; he was an advisor to many and a friend to all; for
24 the past 20 years, he had attended Beth Eden Baptist Church;
25 and
26 WHEREAS, The passing of Golden Sylvester Tillman has been
27 felt by many, especially his children, Hudson Tillman,
28 Loretta Palm, Cynthia (Art) Neeley, John (Linda) Tillman, and
29 Sylester (W. Bill Williams); his grandchildren, Bobby, Alexis
30 (Gerald), Elaine, Hudson, Rhonda, Myrtis, Terrace, Cassandra
31 (Charles), Cypriana, Ines (LaVern), Dylester, Sam, Kevin,

1 David (Natasha), Jessie, Tiffany, Keyth, Holly, and Loren;
2 his 18 great-grandchildren, especially caregivers Hosea and
3 Luvie; his special nieces, Ineice, Josephine, Blanche, and
4 Mary; his nephew, Robert Earl; his special cousin and best
5 friend, Emil Tillman; and his cousins, Willa, Lillie, and
6 Emanuel; and his many other relatives and friends; therefore,
7 be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
9 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing
10 of Golden Sylvester Tillman and we extend our deepest
11 sympathy to his friends, family, and all who knew and loved
12 him; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14 presented to the family of Golden Sylvester Tillman as an
15 expression of our sincere condolences.
