1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of
3 the State of Illinois are pleased to recognize milestones in
4 the lives of citizens of the State; and
5 WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Ray Menke,
6 Clerk of the Village of Brussels, will be celebrating 50
7 years of service with the Village of Brussels; and
8 WHEREAS, Raymond "Ray" Joseph Menke was born in Brussels
9 on July 13, 1928 to Joseph and Elizabeth (Rose) Menke; he was
10 married to Marge Pohlman on November 17, 1956 at St. Mary's
11 Church in Brussels; and
12 WHEREAS, Mr. Menke became the Village Clerk in June of
13 1954 after the death of his father, who had held the position
14 for many years; he has served under several mayors including
15 Paul Mossman, Frank Mossman, Joe Pohlman, Lawrence Flanigan,
16 Dr. Robert Held, Bonnie Held, Minard Kinder, Larry Eberlin,
17 and the present mayor, Sarah A. Kinder; one highlight of his
18 time as clerk was his passion for the Village to purchase the
19 Charles Burch property; he put his heart and soul into that
20 project; and
21 WHEREAS, Mr. Menke valiantly served his country in the
22 Korean War from 1951 to 1953; he owned Menke's tavern for 2
23 years and sold the business to his brother Richard in 1958;
24 in addition to serving as Village Clerk, Mr. Menke worked in
25 construction for several years and retired from Local 660 St.
26 Charles, Missouri in 1991; he has always had a passion for
27 bookkeeping, which is why he has enjoyed his work as Village
28 Clerk for so long; and
29 WHEREAS, Mr. Menke is a lifetime member of St. Mary's
30 Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 685; he and his
31 wife enjoy their trips to the casino and he especially enjoys

1 woodworking in his retirement; he is the father of Nancy
2 (Don) Moennig and Peggy (Dave) Weiner; he is the grandfather
3 of Jill and Allison Moennig and Kyle and Bryan Weiner;
4 therefore, be it
5 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
6 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
7 we offer our heartiest congratulations to Raymond J. Menke on
8 his 50 years of devotion to the Village of Brussels, and we
9 thank him for his hard work and dedication; and be it further
10 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
11 presented to Mr. Menke as an expression of our respect and
12 esteem.
