SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Alice Iona (Conkey) Reiser, who passed
4away on February 28, 2024; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was born to Roy and Nellie
6(Marcussen) Conkey in Petersburg on November 15, 1927; she
7attended Coddington Grade School, Circleville Country Grade
8School, and Tallula High School, where she won awards in home
9economics and dramatic speaking; she graduated from Ashland
10High School in 1945; she received the Daughters of the
11American Revolution (DAR) Citizenship Medal; she married John
12Reiser Jr. at the St. Augustine Catholic Church in Ashland on
13December 29, 1945; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Alice Reiser farmed corn
15and soybeans and raised cattle and hogs; she worked at the
16veterinary clinic in Ashland for 12 years and at the Ashland
17Sentinel; she was appointed as village clerk of Ashland; she
18became the first woman to be elected to the Ashland Village
19Board, serving one term before being hired as village clerk
20full-time; she retired in 1993; in retirement, she wrote a
21children's book, poetry, and fiction; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was a member of St. Augustine

1Church, the Altar Society, the Ashland Junior Women's Club,
2and the Lady Land Owners; she served on the John Cheetham
3Library Board for 12 years, as secretary of the ACHS Alumni
4Board, and as a correspondent for the Ashland's Bicentennial
5Committee from 1975 to 1976; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was an accomplished seamstress; she
7loved butterflies and enjoyed collecting shoes, hats, and
8books, listening to Country Western Music, especially Tom T.
9Hall, attending ladies roundtables at the Inns of Hollybrook,
10and watching old Western movies, Jeopardy, and the St. Louis
11Cardinals; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser will be remembered for her
13generosity, friendliness, and laughter; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser was preceded in death by her
15husband; her parents; her sisters, Ruth (Harold) Clasing,
16Marjorie (Bob Thompson and Bud) Dannenberger, Mary (Joy)
17Adams, and Patricia (Frank) Cline; her brothers, Ray (Norma
18Jean) Conkey, John (Marilyn) Conkey, and Bob (Diane) Conkey;
19her son, John "Jack" (LouAnn) Reiser; her grandson, Mark
20(Natalie) Reiser; her great-granddaughter, Meritt McDaniel;
21and several nieces and nephews; and
 
22    WHEREAS, Alice Reiser is survived by her children, Jill

1(Jim) Coy, Judith Reiser, and James Reiser; her grandchildren,
2Sarah Coy, Michelle (Bruce) Motto, Marsha (Philip) McNulty,
3Cheryl (Brad) Hermes, Clayton (Dani) Reiser, and Ainsley (Kip)
4McDaniel; her step-granddaughter, Amber Large; 14
5great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren;
6therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Alice Iona (Conkey) Reiser and extend our sincere condolences
10to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be
11it further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Alice Reiser as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
