HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Heather
4Marie McMeekan of Peoria Heights, formerly of Macomb, who
5passed away on October 6, 2024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan was born to George and Iris
7(Petersen) Platt in Park Ridge on August 9, 1968; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan taught hundreds of students
9during her years as the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT)
10program coordinator at Western Illinois University (WIU); she
11was the lead instructor for EMTv, a television series
12providing continuing education for Illinois EMT-Basics
13(EMT-Bs); she was also the founding faculty advisor for
14Western EMS, a student-run Emergency Medical Services (EMS)
15service on the WIU campus; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan was a member of the Unitarian
17Universalist Fellowship in Macomb and the Unitarian
18Universalist Church in Peoria; she served on the church's
19Women's Connection Council for six years, introduced other
20members to her love of kites and drumming, and led several
21workshops through the fellowship; and

1    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan, a dedicated community activist
2and organizer, served as co-president of the Peoria Chapter of
3the National Organization of Women; she was the founder and
4president of the Democratic Women of McDonough County and was
5a founding member of Indivisible West Central Illinois and the
6Racial Justice Coalition of West Central Illinois; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan loved her children, kites,
8drumming, painting, sculpting, and scrap-booking; she loved
9sharing her interests with others and did so through the
10foundation of the Macomb Kite Festival, the Macomb Community
11Drum Circle, Macomb Pride, and many other organizations; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan was preceded in death by her
13parents; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Heather McMeekan is survived by her children,
15Iris McMeekan and Kellen McMeekan; her sisters, Anne (Tom)
16Atherton and Laura Croft; and her ex-husband, Peter McMeekan;
17therefore, be it
 
18    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
19HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
20we mourn the passing of Heather Marie McMeekan and extend our
21sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
22and loved her; and be it further

1    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
2presented to the family of Heather McMeekan as an expression
3of our deepest sympathy.
