SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Donald Engel of Hampshire, who passed
4away on October 9, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Donald Engel was born on the family farm in Genoa
6Township to Herman and Anna (Herrmann) Engel on April 1, 1923;
7he was the last surviving member of the Hampshire High School
8Class of 1941; he married Lucille M. Yurs at the St. Charles
9Borromeo Catholic Church in Hampshire on August 21, 1946; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a lifelong farmer in Hampshire
11and a longtime 4-H leader and farm bureau member; he served as
12a Kane County Fair Board member and as superintendent of the
13swine department for the fair for over 25 years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Donald Engel was a member of the St. Charles
15Borromeo Catholic Church, where he served as a past board
16member and usher; he was also a member of the Catholic Order of
17Foresters for over 80 years; he enjoyed traveling, playing
18cards, games, and bingo; he was was a loyal Chicago Cubs fan;
19he loved celebrating life and family; his pride and joy was his
20family and he was always supportive of his families'
21activities; and

1    WHEREAS, Donald Engel was preceded in death by his parents;
2his stepfather, Frank; his wife, Lucille; his brothers, Harold,
3Ronald, and Robert; his granddaughter, Nicole Stading; his
4great-grandson, Edward Engel; and his great-granddaughter,
5Alexandra Mathey; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Donald Engel is survived by his children, Richard
7(Bonnie), Diane (Richard) Stading, Sharon Danos (Ken Orr), Dave
8(Deb), Mary (Paul) Zuzga, and Margie (Larry) Gendron; his
9loving companion, Carroll VonBergen; 12 grandchildren; 17
10great-grandchildren; his sister, Shirley (Vernon) Drendel; and
11his brother, Frank (Carol); therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Donald Engel, and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
15friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Donald Engel as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
