SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of John William Papa of Madison, who passed away on August 18, 2017; and

WHEREAS, John Papa was born in Madison to John Thomas and Helen (Zarr) Papa on July 29, 1925; he married Louise Beatrice (Shable) at St. Mary's Catholic Church; and

WHEREAS, John Papa served his country with the United States Navy during World War II; he retired from Granite City Steel after over 30 years of service as a steelworker; and

WHEREAS, John Papa was a lifelong member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Madison, where he enjoyed helping with the pig and lamb roast; he was active with the Men's Booster Club, and he was a member of the Knights of Columbus Tri-Cities Council #1098; and

WHEREAS, John Papa was preceded in death by his parents; and his brothers, Francis, Robert, George, Rudy, William, and Joseph; and

WHEREAS, John Papa is survived by his beloved wife; his sons, John (Pat Edwards), Francis (Lisa), and Christopher (Michelle); his grandchildren, Jessica, Jake, Karlo, Lena, Luka, and Lilly; his great-grandchildren, Scarlett and Henry; his brother Lawrence "Larry" (Susan) Papa; his sisters-in-law, Jackie Papa and Pat Papa; several nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members and friends; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of John William Papa, and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family and friends of John Papa as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
