SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of John Joseph Case of Naperville, who
4passed away on June 29, 2017; and
 
5    WHEREAS, John Case was born in Lisle Township to John Peter
6and Esther M. (Penfold) Case on May 8, 1930; after his family
7moved from York Center to a farm in Naperville, he transferred
8from St. Joan of Arc School to Saints Peter and Paul School; he
9graduated from Naperville High School in 1948, where he held a
10track record for running the mile which was not broken for
11decades; he graduated from Iowa State University in 1952, where
12he was captain of the track and cross country teams and ran a
134:11 mile on cinders; he was a member of the Sigma Nu
14Fraternity; he married Joyce Burg at Saints Peter and Paul
15Catholic church in Naperville on May 30, 1953; and
 
16    WHEREAS, John Case served as a communications officer in
17the United States Air Force during the Korean War from 1952 to
181953; he was a member of the Air National Guard Communication
19Squadron until he retired as a major in 1978; and
 
20    WHEREAS, John Case worked for the PAG agriculture business
21until its closing in the 1960s; he then bought the plant and
22started Agrinetics which specialized in the production of

1hybrid seed corn; his business employed thousands of young
2people in Naperville with detasseling and roguing summer jobs;
3and
 
4    WHEREAS, John Case served in many charitable and civic
5capacities, including Republican Precinct Committeeman, Lisle
6Township Supervisor, temporary chairman of DuPage County,
7DuPage County Forest Preserve President, Benet Academy School
8Board President, Bank of Sugar Grove President, North Central
9College Board of Directors, PACE Chairman and board president
10and Knights of Columbus member; he also served on the Saints
11Peter and Paul Parish Council and School Board and was an usher
12for many years; he never missed a question from Trivial Pursuit
13in the history, geography, or political science categories; and
 
14    WHEREAS, John Case was preceded in death by his parents and
15his siblings, Jean, Carol, Joseph, Donald, Joan, Lois, Jane
16Koller, and Constance Lally; and
 
17    WHEREAS, John Case is survived by his wife, Joyce; his
18children, John Peter (Rose), Sara (Guy) Tenini, Kathryn (Clyde)
19Shields, Matthew Paul (Angie), and Marilyn (Mike) Gallagher; 14
20grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and
21nephews; therefore, be it
 
22    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2John Joseph Case, and extend our sincere condolences to his
3family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
4further
 
5    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6presented to the family of John Case as an expression of our
7deepest sympathy.
