SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Mary Elizabeth (Naughton) Walsh of Joliet, who passed away on January 2, 2017 at the age of 81; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh was born in Chicago to Stephen and Elizabeth Naughton on March 7, 1935; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh was a nurse for over 40 years; while her children were in grade school, she earned a scholarship to get her master's degree in Nursing from St. Xavier University; she was in management at Silver Cross Hospital, Salem Village, Loyola University Hospital, Hinsdale Hospital, and LaGrange Hospital; she became a Geriatric Nurse Practitioner specializing in Alzheimer's and Dementia, a disease she would have later; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh loved her retirement and volunteered at various places; she and her husband were parishioners at St. Paul's the Apostle for over 40 years; they attended daily mass; she taught CCD there for years and was a Eucharistic Minister; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart; she and her husband, John loved traveling, spending time with their grandchildren, exploring new places, and their weekly date night; her beautiful smile, and kindness will be missed; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 54 years, John; her infant daughter, Agnes; her parents; her brother, James (Teri Pung); her in-laws, Patrick and Agnes Walsh; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Cleary, Patricia Walsh, Dorothy Walsh, Richard (Audrey) Walsh, and Patrick Walsh; and her nephews, Thomas Cleary, Michael Richards, and Stephen Naughton; and

WHEREAS, Mary Walsh is survived by her children, John, Stephen (Amy), and Elizabeth; her four grandsons, John, Vance, Stephen, and Frank; her siblings, Patricia (the late Gilbert) Barthe, Kathleen (Lawrence) Richards, Thomas (Jayne) Naughton, and Stephen Naughton; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Rosanne Walsh, Kevin (the late Mabel) Walsh, Cecilia (the late Donald) Kimball, and Audrey Walsh; and her over 40 nieces and nephews; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we, along with her family and friends, mourn the passing of Mary Elizabeth Walsh, and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Mary Walsh as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
