SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to
3learn of the death of Helen Elizabeth Marlowe of Huntley, who
4passed away on March 3, 2017 at the age of 100; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was born on the family farm in
6Ringwood to Myrtle and C.L. Harrison on December 8, 1916; she
7graduated from McHenry High School and was the first ever
8McHenry County delegate to the National 4-H Conference in
9Washington, D.C.; she attended the American Conservatory of
10Music in Chicago as a student of music performance in trumpet,
11French horn, and marimba; she married Henry Marlowe in 1935;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe and her husband established Marlowe
14Feed and Hatchery; after his passing in 1984, she operated the
15business until 1998; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was a member of First Congregational
17Church in Huntley, where she was a musician and organist; she
18co-founded and developed a handbell choir program for children,
19teens, and adults, which she instructed and directed for 42
20years; she was a major donor to the church music program and
21was instrumental in the acquisition and installation of the
22pipe organ at First Congregational Church and the eight octaves

1of English-made handbells; and
 
2    WHEREAS, In 1970, in conjunction with the White House
3Conference on Aging, Helen Marlowe was appointed Chairperson of
4the McHenry County Project on the needs of the elderly; she was
5an enthusiastic and creative 4-H leader working with young
6women for over 20 years; she also served as a member of the
7Board of Directors at the State Bank of Huntley; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe was preceded in death by her
9husband, Henry; her son, Byron Marlowe; her sister, Amy Brener;
10her brothers, Frank and Alvin Harrison; and her baby brother;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Helen Marlowe is survived by her children,
13Elizabeth Ann (George) Buchal, Lyle (Mary) Marlowe, Dean
14(Marge) Marlowe, and Faye Marlowe; her grandchildren, Craig,
15Julie, and Terri Marlowe, Michael Buchal, Carilu Buchal
16Robinson, Patrick and Christopher Marlowe, Bonnie Olson, Brian
17Marlowe, Carol Fiandalo, Marlowe Holden, and Taylor Holden; 14
18great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and her
19sister, Carol Donahue; therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Helen Elizabeth Marlowe, and extend our sincere condolences to

1her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
2further
 
3    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4presented to the family of Helen Marlowe as an expression of
5our deepest sympathy.
