SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Caroline Maxine Holford of Peoria, who passed away on October 22, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Caroline Holford was born in Peoria to Harry and Anna (Klochenga) Ward on June 11, 1943; she loved Peoria and played on the river as a child; she married Eugene Holford on June 11, 1960; and

WHEREAS, Caroline Holford worked at the Hometown Buffet for three years and loved working with people and the staff there; and

WHEREAS, In 1997, Caroline Holford became the town "Rat Lady" when she fought city hall on her own because a young boy was afraid to sleep in his bedroom; and

WHEREAS In 2000, Caroline Holford was asked to serve on the Heartland Clinic Board, the first patient to do so, where she served until 2011; she also served on the Housing and Property Commission, under three mayors; she helped raise money for neighborhood leaders to travel to other cities; and

WHEREAS, Caroline Holford loved people, her community, her family, and her faith; she had a great sense of humor and was loyal to the people that she loved; she enjoyed playing shuffleboard, singing karaoke, and dancing; and

WHEREAS, Caroline Holford was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Eugene; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Caroline Maxine Holford and extend our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Caroline Holford as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
