| 2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to | 3 | | learn of the death of Michael Lester Smith of Chicago, who | 4 | | passed away on October 25, 2018; and
| 5 | | WHEREAS, Michael Smith was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan to | 6 | | Gerald and Dorothy Smith on January 25, 1946; he served in the | 7 | | United States Army as a medic in Germany during the Vietnam War | 8 | | and married Rebecca Smith on October 20, 1979; and
| 9 | | WHEREAS, Michael Smith worked as a hemodialysis | 10 | | technologist at the University of Chicago Hospital for 40 years | 11 | | before retiring; and
| 12 | | WHEREAS, Michael Smith's passion in life was baseball, | 13 | | whether it be playing, coaching, or watching; he was devoted to | 14 | | his family and enjoyed spending time with them; he never missed | 15 | | any of his children's games, plays, recitals, or any other | 16 | | activities in which they were involved; he played a huge role | 17 | | in the lives of many others, being a mentor to some; he was | 18 | | also generous with the community, spearheading projects such as | 19 | | a food bank for his patients and acquiring grants to build a | 20 | | baseball diamond at Kilbourn Park; and
| 21 | | WHEREAS, Michael Smith is survived by his wife, Rebecca; |

| 1 | | his children, Mark (Erica), Keith (Errin Gray), and Elizabeth; | 2 | | and his grandchildren, Jack, Henry, and Scarlett; therefore, be | 3 | | it
| 4 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL | 5 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of | 6 | | Michael Lester Smith and extend our sincere condolences to his | 7 | | family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it | 8 | | further
| 9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be | 10 | | presented to the family of Michael Smith as an expression of | 11 | | our deepest sympathy.
