SENATE RESOLUTION

WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened to learn of the death of Dr. Brent Michael Leh of Edwardsville, who passed away on October 6, 2018; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leh was born in St. Louis, Missouri on August 3, 1986; he graduated from Edwardsville High School, where he was known for his friendliness and leadership and was captain of the wrestling team; he completed his undergraduate work at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree with honors from the University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine in May 2012; and

WHEREAS, Immediately after graduation, Dr. Leh joined the staff at Hawthorne Animal Hospital, which was founded by his grandfather; he specialized in emergency, critical care medicine and was known for his enthusiasm in providing compassionate care for companion animals and their families; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leh served as a volunteer wrestling coach; he enjoyed combat sports, boating, motorcycling, traveling, and classic cars; he had an infectious smile; through his gift of organ donation, five lives have been saved; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leh was preceded in death by his grandfather, Richard J. Leh; and

WHEREAS, Dr. Leh is survived by his parents, Ann (Michael) Culp and Richard J. Leh Jr.; his brother, Richard J. (Laura) Leh III; his niece, Devyn Anne; his step-siblings, Bethany C. (Eric) Paulsen, Benjamin M. (Megan) Culp, Nathanial M. (Pamela) Culp, and Gregory Culp; his nieces and nephews, Emmet Paulsen, Julia, Wesley, and Owen Culp, and Clayton Culp; his grandparents Merrill and Grace Ottwein, Donna Ross, and Ethel Leh; his aunts and uncles, Amy (Keith) Zagar, Paul (Amber) Ottwein, Emily Ottwein, and Linda Evans; his cousins, John (Nicole) Ottwein, Adam (Jessica) Ottwein, Tyler (Amy) Ottwein, Dakota Roper, Matthew (Catherine) Zagar, Patrick Zagar, Benjamin Ottwein, and Casey Evans; and his partner, Molly Harris and her daughter, Luca; therefore, be it

RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDREDTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of Dr. Brent Michael Leh and extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be presented to the family of Dr. Leh as an expression of our deepest sympathy.
